H.E. Mr Hissein Brahim Taha assumed office as Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 17 November 2021, having been appointed to the position by the 47th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Niamey, Republic of Niger on 28 November 2020.
Born in Abeche, Chad, on 1 November 1951, Mr Hissein Brahim Taha is a seasoned diplomat who for many decade has been at the helm in in the diplomatic corps. He occupied many positions in his country, Chad after having studied in and graduated from in the University of Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) Paris, in 1978.
He was Assistant Secretary-General with the rank of minister at the presidency of the Republic of Chad between 2019 and 2020; Diplomatic Adviser in the presidency in 2018; and Minister of Foreign Affairs and African International Integration in 2017.
Mr Taha began his diplomatic career in 1981. He was Ambassador Extraordinary of the Republic of Chad and Minister Counsellor in France, Spain, Portugal, Greece and The Vatican between 2007 and 2017. He also served as First Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Chad to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1991 to 2021.
He had a stint as Director of Cabinet of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad from 1990 to 1991 and headed the Europe and America section in the Department of Economic and International Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1981 to 1982.
H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha was decorated with the Knighthood of the Republic of Chad, Legion of Honour of France and honorary ambassador to Chad.
